Unlocking the full potential of community-owned energy requires both technological and policy reform. Governments must update regulatory frameworks to allow peer-to-peer energy trading, clear the backlog for microgrid grid connections, and provide seed funding for low-income housing energy projects. At the same time, young innovators are leveraging open-source software and smart-contract technology to automate local energy trading, ensuring that clean, affordable power can be shared seamlessly across neighborhood networks.
